Template:NewItem Poison is an ingredient that can be applied to foods in order to poison them. Foods can be poisoned by going into a player's inventory and holding [F] when prompted on a food in order to poison it. When successfully poisoned, the food will appear identical to and will even stack with regular foods of the same type. Consumption of a poisoned food will remain identical to eating a regular food, including restoring hunger.

When consuming a poisoned food, a player will receive an effects notification that they feel sick for approximately 12.5 seconds. After that amount of time, the effect will change to a statement that the player has been poisoned, and that they will die if they do not seek out an antidote; the player's health will begin to decline after that. It takes 2.5 minutes for the health bar to be depleted down to halfway, and after going below 50 health, begins to decrease at twice the original rate[1], meaning that the player ultimately has less than 3:45 to locate and consume an antidote to halt the poisoning.

If the player lives to the end of the poisoning effect after ten[2] minutes, the poison will be removed from the player's system.
