Mouvement De La Liberte

Mouvement de la Liberté by former devloper BDLazarus.

Overview

The Mouvement de la Liberté (en. Liberty Movement, lit. Movement of Liberty) is a French rebel group that are against British rule of Quebec and the Canadian frontier under the British-chartered Saint Lawrence Company. Consisting of remnants from the French colonies of New France, including the Beauval Regional Militia Corps in the Beauval Isles, Movement members found in Rupert's Den and the Plateau Warehouse on the Isle of Rupert, and a group of rebels in Stonemore Island, the Movement seeks to disrupt the Saint Lawrence Company's operations by depriving them of trade commodities and fighting in battles against their military. As a civilian–run rebellion, it had aligned with the former Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France, though its members and players who fulfill contracts for the Movement are not adherent to the Compagnie.

The Liberty Movement offers Saint Lawrence Company bounties for players to undertake by killing an SLC member of a specific rank and claiming their rank badge for payment and rewards. The higher the rank of the member, the higher the payment and contract reward progress. Because of the presence of Fort Rupert on the Isle of Rupert, many players undertaking SLC bounties can be found waging what can amount to practically fully fledged battles against the Saint Lawrence Company on the island, meriting plenty of bounties of their own for attacking them.

History

The Mouvement de la Liberté began sometime following the Treaty of Paris, in which France was made to give the British Empire much of the lands of New France. A resistance movement would rise in opposition to British rule, which would form into the Movement. Naturally, New Frenchmen who had colonized these lands and who were driven off to the Beauval Isles would join the Movement, organizing the Movement by establishing a system of Movement–friendly locations and smuggling goods, items, and weapons from the Saint Lawrence Company. These locations included Rupert's Den and the Plateau Warehouse on the Isle of Rupert, with illegal items being smuggled from British supplies by Johannes von Mueller, a German frontiersman.

The Movement would continue to expand its operations, maintaining anti–British, pro–French sentiments in mostly French colonist settlements such as New Bordeaux and St. Paul; these operations would come to include organized militias such as the Beauval Regional Militia Corps, who would be tasked with defending the lands of Beauval from potential British attack. Sometime during the 1710s to 1720s, the Movement would spread rumors of an imminent attack upon the town of Averton on Stonemore Island, driving the local governor and the contingent of Saint Lawrence Companymen to flee from the island. This left the town completely undefended, and the Movement ransacked the town for riches and supplies that were intended for the Saint Lawrence Company. In the process, the attackers neglected to pursue the town's residents, who took shelter in and developed the Averton Den.

Due to the fall of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France, it seems as though the movement has suffered a significant blow to their operations due to the lack of a real military detachment from the Kingdom of France.
