Overview

The Isle of Rupert, also known as Rupert's Isle, is the second northernmost island and the former starting island in NORTHWIND, it is also the frontier's second most popular island. It is a cold temperature island, but is also geographically the most diverse, with a glacial region in the north, thawed pockets of grass along the southern coasts, and large mountains contrasted by areas of flat plains across the map. The island is one of two islands where the player can partake in treasure hunting.

The environment of the island is treacherous to navigate, with the mountains, cold rivers with limited crossing points, and the snow all posing obstacles for inexperienced or unprepared players. Conflicts between the Saint Lawrence Company, natives, colonists, and generally raiders are extremely common on the Isle of Rupert. Battles take place on the island every day, with most combat and warfare being found here.

The Isle of Rupert is split into four major islands and two smaller islands. Colonist players will spawn in James Bay on the northwestern point of the main island, whereas Saint Lawrence Company players spawn in Fort Rupert on the northeastern point of the island. Native players spawn in the Native camp found in the Home of the Spirits, an area with pine trees, berry bushes, and rabbits. A second Colonist settlement, Saint Paul, is found along the westernmost point of the Iron Coast on the southwesternmost island.

The most common Colonist businesses are split between James Bay and Saint Paul, requiring players to make the trip on foot or by the waterways between each location. A trading post is also found in Rupert's Pass, which allows Native players to sell their items for pounds. There are also traces of the Mouvement de la Liberté on the island, including the illegal smuggler found throughout many caves within the island and the Rupert's Den within the Northface Cavern. Bounty hunting within the island is common, however, wanted players are rarely interdicted by the SLC. Unlike Fort de Belcourt, Fort Rupert is manned exclusively by players on the Saint Lawrence Company Role role.

Lore

The Isle of Rupert is the most populated of the northern islands. Life in the north is alreaddy harsh, and may become worse as conflicts between colonists[1] and the Saint Lawrence Company have increased tensions on the island.

Official ingame lore

The Isle of Rupert was first colonized by France during the colonization of New France sometime during the 17th to 18th Centuries, establishing the small town of Saint Paul on the southern coastline. During this time, the French maintained good relations with the native population and established what would become the Plateau Warehouse in the Plateau de Champlain as they gathered resources from the island. The British would also later colonize the isle, establishing James Bay on the northwestern point of the largest island; their initial interactions with the natives would remain friendly, allowing trading posts such as the one in Rupert's Pass to be established, as well as fur trading with the natives.

Though they had remained in a state of coexistence for some time, the British Empire and the French would eventually find out that the other had colonized the isle and would enter into conflict. Looking to intimidate the French through military diplomacy and to safeguard James Bay from attack, the British constructed Fort Rupert, which had an advantageous position in both guarding the British colony and potentially attacking Saint Paul. This conflict would be resolved by the Treaty of Paris, in which the French ceded the island to the British, though the town of Saint Paul would remain even after being burned down by the Saint Lawrence Company. New Frenchmen who disagreed with the isle being handed over to the British established the island's sect of the Mouvement de la Liberté, and began fighting against the SLC and smuggling goods, supplies, and weaponry between the criminal warehouse and Rupert's Den.

With ownership of the island, the British would also take over the warehouse in the Plateau de Champlain. Unlike the French, however, tensions between the British and the natives would build with colonial expansion and the destruction of the island's natural environment, which was seen as a desecration of the lands by the natives; native tribes would begin to assault movements of SLC troops carrying goods and supplies from the warehouse through the southern areas of the Isle of Rupert to the fort. These tensions would eventually flare up into all-out conflict between the unified tribes of the once-great Five Great Nations of Canada and the Saint Lawrence Company.

After the disbanding of the Five Great Nations of Canada, the Saint Lawrence Company would remain unopposed for some time until the arrival of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France which had established Fort Henribourg on the southwestern portion of the Isle of Rupert. Battles between the French and the British would resume until the disbandment of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France which would cause Fort Henribourg and Victoria Fens to be abandoned, and the French subjects of the island to be left again to their British rulers.

In the present day, the Saint Lawrence Company still battles remnants of the Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France who have turned into raiders or natives who still battle against the company.
