ATTENTION: THIS PAGE IS OUTDATED AND WILL BE UPDATED IN THE UPCOMING NORTHWIND WIKI OVERHAUL UPDATE, PLEASE BE PATIENT AS WE WORK TO BRING YOU A BETTER INFORMATIONAL EXPERINCE.
Beauval Isles, also known as Beauval, is the starting island in Northwind, being the only warm temperature island due to being the southernmost island ingame. It was one of two islands released in Update 16 — The Big One, and is the default island that all players begin on, replacing the Isle of Rupert as the starting island. The island's environment is fairly forgiving of new players learning how to play the game, with almost zero natural predators, a warm climate allowing warmth to regenerate faster, and no looting of players' bodies when outside of safe zones.
The Beauval Isles are split into three islands, with a handful of lesser islands in between. Colonist, Saint Lawrence Company, and Compagnie de la Nouvelle-France players will spawn in New Bordeaux on the southeastern isle, and Native players will spawn in Irosonee End on the northern isle, nearby areas teeming with animals and full of resources. The third, southwestern isle is home to Fort Marseau, which contains Big guy, the island's NPC bounty, and Fort de Belcourt, an NPC-manned fort garrisoned by militiamen of the Beauval Regional Militia Corps. The militiamen will remain friendly to players if not attacked, but if provoked by being attacked, or if a militiaman's corpse is looted, the NPCs will turn hostile to all players and a bounty will be placed on the heads of players who attack them.
Lore
The Beauval Isles are in the southern region of the New World. The area is the last possession of the remains of New France in Canada.
Official ingame lore
The Beauval Isles were first colonized by France during the colonization of New France sometime during the 17th to 18th Centuries, establishing the town of New Bordeaux on the southeastern isle, as well as Fort Marseau on the southwestern isle. It is believed that during a conflict with the British, Fort Marseau was destroyed, and Fort de Belcourt was built in its stead.
Due to an inability to support its New French colonies and defend them from British attack, France capitulated and signed the Treaty of Paris, allowing the British Empire to take over much of the territory that France had formerly claimed. This reduced the size of New France down to but a handful of lands and territories, which included the Beauval Isles. The region of the Isles is now governed from New Bordeaux in the Beauval Regional Office, and is defended by the Beauval Regional Militia Corps, which guards against further British attack.
